Photo Show Chairman's Message - Reprinted from the Summer 2006 Merry-Go-Roundup
By Gary Nance, NCA Photo Show ChairmanThe NCA's Photo Show Project
In 2004, the NCA implemented its Photo Show Project in an attempt to assemble the most complete set of carousel pictures available on the Web. This unique program allows volunteer photographers from across the country who are willing to donate their images and time, the opportunity to create a photo presentation of their favorite carousels. And when they've finished, their shows are made available on the NCA Web site for the world to see. Our photo show project has been online for a year and a half, and we're proud to announce that we now have more than 1000 pictures from 32 different carousels available for online viewing, at http://nca-usa.org/psp. In 2005, we expanded the photo show project by adding links from the NCA's online carousel census directly to the photo shows. So when you're viewing a census entry for which a photo show exists, a single click of the mouse will allow you to visit the carousel online. To see a complete list of carousels in the NCA census for which photo shows have been created, go to http://nca-usa.org/census/census-psp.html. The NCA photo shows are actually assembled by those who submit their photos, using our easy online application. Once the photos have been submitted, we do a little digital enhancement if necessary, review the presentation for accuracy and appearance, and then post the show on the NCA Web site. We're always looking for more carousels to display in the NCA's photo show program. If you'd like to submit a set of pictures of your favorite carousel, send an e-mail message to photoshow@nca-usa.org, and we'll get you started right away! The NCA Census Map
Maybe you've wondered if there are any interesting carousels along your route. Or perhaps you'd like to plan your route based on interesting carousels. Whatever, the NCA Census Map was created for this purpose. You may visit it online at http://nca-usa.org/NCACensusMap.html. The census map is displayed in four sections, so be sure to scroll down in your browser to see the entire display The first two sections represent the classic wooden carousels in the eastern and western United States. A map of classic metal carousels appears next, followed by a map of new wooden carousels. To view a brief description of a particular carousel, position the point of your mouse cursor over the carousel's map dot for a second or two. The description will appear in a small pop-up. To view the current NCA census information for a particular carousel, just click its dot.
